Lyocell fibre is made from natural cellulose polymer by the spinning process of dry spray wet spinning. The cross section of the fiber is round or oval, there are no visible pores inside the fiber, the fiber surface is smooth, and there is no longitudinal groove. Its strength can be comparable to that of polyester, and it has a high modulus and high wet strength.
The X-ray diffraction results of Lyocell fibers show that it has the typical crystal characteristics of cellulose II, which is triclinic crystal. The crystallinity of Lyocell fiber calculated by diffraction intensity is 54%, which is higher than that of viscose fiber (40%). The results of birefringence show that Lyocell fiber has higher orientation than viscose fiber, which indicates that the fiber axial regularity of Lyocell fiber is better than that of viscose fiber.
Due to its basic chemical structure, Lyocell fibers contains a large number of hydroxyl groups in the basic unit of the fiber, which makes it have good hygroscopicity. The water absorption rate of Lyocell fiber can reach 11.5%, which is higher than that of cotton fiber. Good moisture absorption can improve the wearing comfort of the fabric and reduce the accumulation of static electricity.
