Lyocell fiber has many advantages, but there is also a prominent disadvantage - fibrillation. Lyocell fiber is a giant fiber, not easy to wear off, it will not only affect the appearance of clothing, but also have an adverse effect on the processing of fiber.
According to the study, Tencel fiber has a unique core structure, the core layer is mainly composed of highly parallel giant fibril, the cortex is composed of a thin outer cortex and a thick inner cortex.
Lyocell fiber has the characteristics of high crystallization and high orientation, which leads to high longitudinal tensile strength of the fiber. On the other hand, high crystallization reduces the amorphous region, thereby reducing the horizontal interpenetration of molecular chains. The structure of the cortex is formed during the process of fiber formation.
The spinning process of Lyocell fibers are dry spray wet spinning. After the spinning solution exits the spinneret hole, it is cooled and solidified rapidly by cooling wind and subjected to the maximum tensile stress. At this time, the diameter of the fiber also decreases sharply, because the internal cooling of the fiber is obviously slower than that of the outer layer, the curing process of the inner layer lags behind the outer layer, and the more the internal curing lag of the fiber is more serious, thus forming the layered structure of the fiber, the longitudinal of the fiber due to the greater tensile force, the formation of a high orientation and crystallization structure, and the longitudinal of the fiber due to the difference in forming time. A perfect intermolecular hydrogen bond cannot be formed between the layers, thus reducing the transverse force of the fiber. This structure is more vulnerable to destruction under certain specific conditions.
The giant fibril itself has a high degree of order, and there is a certain amorphous region between the giant fibril, and small molecules of water can easily enter this region, which further weakens the force between the giant fibril with weak binding force.
Fibrination is not good for the processing of fibers and will also cause bad appearance of clothing, so it is necessary to carry out antigenic fibrination treatment of Lyocell fibers through appropriate methods.
There are many ways to reduce the fibrillation of Lyocell fiber. In the fiber manufacturing process, spinning temperature, cooling air temperature, coagulation bath conditions and tensile ratio will have certain effects on fibrillation. However, Lyocell fiber has the basic characteristics of high polymerization orientation and high crystallinity, and only changing the process conditions in the fiber manufacturing process is not enough to completely solve the problem of fibrillation.
Through some chemical reactions, the giant fibril on the surface of cellulose is connected by chemical crosslinking method, which can effectively prevent fiber fibrillation. N, N-dimethylol dihydroxyethylurea and oligmaleic anhydride can be used as crosslinking agents to form chemical bonds between cellulose molecules through the reaction with cellulose hydroxyl groups and increase the ability of antigen fibrination.
Oligmaleic anhydride and citric acid as mixed crosslinkers treating Lyocell fiber can effectively improve the ability of antigen fibrination.
