Lyocell fiber is a new type of cellulose fiber developed abroad in the 1990s, its raw materials are inexhaustible cellulose in nature, the production does not occur chemical reaction, the solvent used is non-toxic and can be recycled 99.7%, the obtained fiber products set the advantages of natural fibers and synthetic fibers in one, through a variety of post-processing technology combination, Not only can be made into thousands of different styles of fabrics for the clothing industry, but also can be made into filter materials, non-woven fabrics and other applications in other fields. 


In addition, the product waste is biodegradable. Therefore, the whole process is simple, advanced, and fully in line with environmental protection requirements, in recent years has become a hot spot in the international textile industry. But so far only a few foreign companies have mastered its production technology.


China's textile industry is currently in the adjustment of industrial structure of the second entrepreneurial period, the urgent need to develop such new technology, high grade, less pollution, good efficiency of chemical fiber new products to drive the economic growth of the entire industry. To this end, Donghua University has completed the pilot development and research of Lyocell fiber since 1994 with the support of government agencies at all levels, and has undertaken this project (Shanghai Key scientific and technological research project) since 1999. With the support of Shanghai Science and Technology Commission and Shanghai Textile Holding Group, and the joint efforts of Shanghai Chemical Fiber Company, Donghua University completed the research tasks of the project in advance, and successfully established a complete production line with an annual output of 100 tons of Lyocell fiber, and initially formed the basic software of Lyocell spinning process. 


On this basis, qualified Lyocell fiber was produced. The project has passed the expert appraisal organized by Shanghai Science and Technology Commission, and its results have reached the international level. Recently, Lyocell Project Day has been recognized by Shanghai as the high-tech achievements transformation project Day, and by the Ministry of Education as the "Top Ten scientific and technological Progress in Chinese universities" project.
